Maybe, but who am I to judge.
One of Marvels odder characters has found his way to the big screen this weekend. Doctor Strange is the story of Stephen Strange and how he became a master of dimensions and time.
I really admire Marvel for not backing down and passing on some of their projects because they will be visually difficult to tell. With the state of current CGI, there truly is no reason to be afraid to try. I feel like Doctor Strange is a love it or hate it kind of film.
Sure they cast hugely popular Benedict Cumberbatch in the role, but we all know movies don’t necessarily live and die by casting huge names. That said, he does a pretty damn good job. It’s weird hearing him without his trademark accent.
The real success of this film is due to the visionary director Scott Derrickson, who’s been known for horror. Making a film like Strange must have been a bright ray of sunshine for him.
I’m not even going to touch on the whitewashing subject. I know it’s a hot button issue. That said, Tilda Swinton is a chameleon, and I love her versatility. She’s a different take on The Ancient One, and I’m okay with that.
The film is mostly fun 2 hour ride. Once you get through all of the origins, and into the Sorcery, it’s trippy and chaotic in the most incredible way. If you love Marvel films, this is a must see, especially if you dig the Thor & Guardians films. I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up, and I cant wait to see everyone on screen together for Infinity War.
Also a small note. Definitely stay after the credits.
