Marvel’s latest film in their vast universe hits theaters this weekend. Starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym (The former Ant-Man and creator of the suit) for those not quite as savvy, Evangeline Lily as Hope (Hank’s daughter) and Our Villain Darren Cross is portrayed by Corey Stoll.

So with a star studded cast at the helm, you can expect a quality product and Ant-Man mostly delivers that. Rudd finally proves that he can lead a huge blockbuster film and isn’t just meant to play a supporting part. Some of the best acting in the film goes to the smaller part played by Michael Pena, in the role of Luis. One of Scott’s criminal pals.

But as for the plot. It’s pretty simple. Scott Lang (Rudd) is pretty much tricked into putting on the suit, and soon see’s it as an opportunity to make things right. To go down the right path, wipe away his criminal past, and put him on the path to seeing his young daughter again.

Of course our Villain is greedy and wants the Tech that makes the Ant-Man suit so special. He knows it exists and he won’t stop until he can replicate it. When he does, we have our full blown “Yellow Jacket” to take out.

So while the film does a good job of entertaining the audience. It just comes off very simple. Sure it has comedy, and action, and cool visual effects. It just ends up feeling like another link in the chain without much more than a couple new characters to show for it. Would I watch it again. Absolutely, it was hilarious and so much fun . Would I call it one of the best Marvel Films of all time… no.

What this movie makes very clear, is while Marvel can still grand slam a movie like Guardians of the Galaxy out of the park. It still has its struggles to make a product as special as it could be. Unfortunately 2015 has been a year of Marvel Movie let downs. The Avengers Age of Ultron wasn’t nearly as good as the first film, leaving many to wonder why even bother with the Ultron plot.  Ant-Man while a fun comedy action film, just felt like it could have been so much more than it was. Come on Marvel.. I’m pulling for you to really wow us again soon.
