Bachelorette (Review)

The film Bachelorette hits theaters this weekend. The film has been available to the public for almost a month already though. It’s one of the first films to release on demand before it’s gone to theaters.

Bachelorette stars Kirsten Dunst as the maid of honor, Rebel Wilson as the bride to be, and Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher as the other two high school friends/bridesmaids. Most of the movie takes place during the night before the big wedding. The bridesmaids get themselves into some sticky situations before the evening has ended.

I like the cast they had for the film. Well most of the cast. I’m always hot and cold about Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher both. But I really like Lizzy Caplan and Rebel Wilson. Unfortunately Rebel Wilson who was the Bachelorette in all of this, wasn’t in the film nearly as much as the other girls.

So with a cast of comedic actors I do enjoy, I wanted to enjoy the film. It had its moments even. But I just felt like the whole thing was trying to be Bridesmaids, which is almost forgivable. You could play the copy game with any film now a days. It’s all been done it seems.  But the biggest mistake a film can make, is not giving you a reason to care about the characters. They give you a little reason, but you mostly just feel bad for Rebel’s character. Her friends are immature and need to grow up.

I guess the immaturity was supposed to be good for laughs but it truly wasn’t very funny most of the time. The only one of the three bridesmaids that was worth the laughs was Lizzy Caplan. She has that line delivery that knocks it out of the park.

Overall it’s an alright movie. I don’t know that I’d watch it more than once. It hits theaters this weekend, but you may want to save the gas and check it out on demand instead. Caplan and Wilson are worth it, but don’t expect too much from Fisher or Dunst.
