AAA Texas 500 Race, Qualifying & Practice

Published on November 9th, 2011

Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway the chase for the Sprint Cup continued with the AAA Texas 500. Race winner Tony Stewart dominated the track, leading for 173 laps. Edwards, Kahne, Kenseth, and Biffle all gave him a run for his money but Stewart pulled it off in the end after a relatively calm race.

Edwards who is in first place as far as points are concerned finished second, racing hard, in attempt to steal the lead from Stewart. Smoke just had the faster car and it showed. Kasey Kahne pulled off a third place finish, staying in the top of the pack for majority of the race, which wasn’t surprising after having one of the fastest cars in practice.

Chase contender Matt Kenseth finished fourth and led for 87 laps. Kenseth was the race winner at TMS this spring, and is currently fourth place is the chase. Pole sitter Greg Biffle pulled off a fifth place finish, and rounding out the top ten were Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Clint Bowyer and A.J. Allmendinger.

As the season comes to a close, realistically the Chase has come down to Edwards vs. Stewart. With two races left, it’s such a small margin between the two that it is literally too tough to call. Jimmie Johnson’s reign has come to an end and one of these guys will be the new champ.  Needless to say its been a very close and exciting season this year.
