In Time (Review)

Grade: A

In Time is the latest from writer director Andrew Niccol starring Justin Timberlake & Amanda Seyfreid. The premise of the movie is basically Time is Money. The human race has been genetically engineered to not age past 25 and to die at the age of 26, unless of course you get more time. To get more time you work. The poor essentially struggle to live usually with no more than a day on their clock and the rich can live for centuries, possibly forever.

In Time might just be one of the most creative movie premises I’ve seen this year. There are a few contenders but this was pretty refreshing. At the core of the film sure it’s simply a humanitarian action flick, but the sci fi twist and is what makes it.

Timberlake just gets better with time it seems, no pun intended of course. The musician turned actor has come a long way since Alpha Dog. The man has proved he is more than just talented. Seyfried delivers the typical performance we’ve come to expect from her. But does nothing to stand out, getting lost standing next to the charismatic Timberlake.

The plot mostly keeps a steady pace, and only finds itself dragging in a few spots. I guess that’s ironic since it’s a movie about not having enough time. Either way to me this one was a winner. I would most definitely recommend it.
