Selena Gomez made her way home last week on her “We Own The Night 2011″ concert tour. Stopping at the Gexa Energy Pavillion Wednesday night to perform tunes from her three albums. The audience was filled with bouncing bubbly youngsters and teens, shrieking as soon as Grand Prairie native hit the stage. While Selena Gomez may not be your cup of tea, at least she is giving youngsters a positive image to look up to.
Parents don’t have to worry about curse words, racy outfits, or having to listen to songs about self loathing. She is one of few successfully breaking out beyond the Disney shell she grew up in, without having to be edgy in attempt to make head lines. In fact it’s refreshing to not have to hear disgusting “did they just say that?” lyrics.
The music business, especially pop music and top 40 is in a state of emergency as far as I’m concerned. I am so tired of turning on the radio to hear disgusting tunes where men sing and rap about women that should whore it up so they can hit it and leave it. Then you have women who feed into this notion by singing about how they should whore it up to get these disgusting men. I’m talking to you Kanye, Kesha, Nikki Minaj. If acts like Gomez are the path to enlightenment and teaching kids they don’t have to degrade themselves for guys to like them, then so be it.
Selena put on a fun show, and was visibly thrilled to be performing for her hometown crowd. Check out our gallery below and then comment to tell me how I need to get off my pedestal.
