Captain America: The First Avenger (Review)

Grade: A-

Well our final puzzle piece to the Avengers hit theaters this weekend. Captain America.. yes America’s soldier blew up box offices this weekend, and for good reason.

Captain follows suit to the likes of his Avengers counter parts including Thor & Iron Man, giving us a solid entertaining comic book story. You would think by now there would be some kind of formula to making hit super hero flicks, but I think Green Lantern proved otherwise last month.

Captain has it all, a great story, fantastic action, and even some funny moments. For those who don’t know much about Captain America. Steve Rogers starts off a scrawny weakling, but eventually gets recruited to the armed forces as a special group of candidates. He goes through a transformation turning him into Captain America and soon finds himself facing Red Skull and the German Army during World War II.

The film is a period piece of sorts, and this makes it drag here and there. The director fluffed it a bit with a few un needed scenes, which to me was the only thing I thought tarnished the movie. Otherwise it’s a near perfect comic book movie. Holding its own fine as a stand alone, but not denying those hardcore comic fans little nods here and there.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. There’s no reason to hesitate, theres nothing quite like seeing it on the big screen.

I think this is effortlessly the most entertaining of the so-called summer blockbusters this year. This isn’t to say it’s a great film, but it’s absolutely excellent fun in a easy and uncomplicated way, showing a genuine sense of humour throughout. So forget the indifference of Thor, Green Lantern and X-Men First Class. Pick up some popcorn and prepare for action.
