Well another Super Hero movie made its way to the Box Office. That’s right, Green Lantern has finally arrived. It’s even quite possibly one of the most anticipated super hero flicks this year. So the question is, does it live up to its 300 million dollar budget?
For those that know nothing about Green Lantern, here’s the cliff notes version. Green Lanterns are a massive group of beings from all over the universe given rings that harness the power of will. These rings can create anything your mind wills it to. Hal Jordan, the character Ryan Reynolds plays, is chosen by the ring to guard the sector that includes earth, and there you have it.
Now did this comic book adaptation live up to everything it was expected to be, especially for the major budget it was given? No it did not. There was nothing extraordinary about this film, no gusto. Ryan is the typical character you’d expect him to be who gets a few snazzy one liners, but his comedic genius seems wasted in the part. Someone get him a Deadpool outfit quick. I also wanted to mention Blake Lively. Now this may just be me, but every time I see her in a new movie, I like her less and less. Wanting to yell “go away I don’t like you,” is not in my typical movie going nature.
Some of the effects in the film looked fantastic, but some stuff like the airplane dogfight looked incredibly crappy. I can’t wrap my head around cheap work in a massive budget film. But even with all of that I’d probably watch it again, not because I thought it was the most amazing thing. It wasn’t awful though. It just was your average comic book movie.
