Sick Puppies, are probably a band you’ve definitely heard someone mention. Chances are you’ve heard some of their tunes on the radio and had no idea. These hard working Aussie rockers are taking the radio by storm with their hit song “Maybe” which is currently in the Hot 100.

Sick Puppies have hit the road again, and will be at Trees next Thursday, June 8th.  Tickets will run you about 25 bucks and are available at Front Gate Tickets.

Recently, we had a chance to talk with Mark from the band about their music, touring, and what they do in their down time.  Scroll down to check out our exclusive interview.

DFW LIVE: The band is originally from Australia.. How do your fans differ here in the U.S.?

Mark: We’re actually more popular here in the U.S. So when we go tour in Australia, which is a smaller market, we get to be a little more anonymous.

DFW LIVE: The film Rock Prophecies was really the first time I was introduced to the band. Do you credit Robert Knight as playing an intricate part in landing your record deal in the U.S.?

Mark: Definitely, he was the reason our manager moved over here. He helped get contacts set up so we were talking to the right people. He was very much an intricate part and we still keep in touch. He’s a good guy.

DFW LIVE: “Maybe” is getting tons of airplay and is in the Hot 100. Have y’all had a chance to hear it on the radio?

Mark: Of course, but it never gets old hearing it on the radio. The recent success of the song is bringing in a new crowd to our shows.

DFW LIVE: What do you consider the coolest place your music has been used?

Mark: Sporting events are pretty cool, it’s great when they use our songs to pump up the crowd. We had a song used on the WWE and that was cool.

DFW LIVE: Are you working on a new album yet or still out pushing “Tri Polar?”

Mark: We’ve definitely got ideas for the next album, but we aren’t in the studio working on anything yet. Still touring and promoting the current album.

DFW LIVE: What do you guys do in your down time? Any fun hobbies?

Mark: I’m real out doorsy. I like to go surfing when I can, I’m kind of a beach bum. I like to go golfing too.

DFW LIVE: Are there any places you like to visit or would like to visit when you come to Dallas? I know touring doesn’t leave too much time to actually be a tourist though.

Mark: Exactly, we try to do as much as we can, but there’s not much time to usually. We did come to the film fest a couple years ago though for the release of “Rock Prophecies.”

DFW LIVE: So for the folks who haven’t seen you before. What’s a Sick Puppies show like? What do you want the audience to get out of it?

Mark: Energetic, high intensity, we actually pride ourselves on our live show. This tour we’re changing it up a bit, adding the acoustic thing in the middle of the set, to make it kind of like a roller coaster. Shim is an amazing front man. We hope to convert everyone that comes to Sick Puppies fans. We usually play House of Blues in Dallas, but we’ve played Trees before too and it’s a great venue.
Thanks to Mark from the Sick Puppies for taking time out to talk to us. And once again, the band will be playing Trees on June 8th!
