Hanson at The House of Blues

Published on November 2nd, 2009

Oklahoma brothers Hanson returned to the House of Blues on Sunday night on their “Use Your Sole” tour. Still doing their pre show walk to spread awareness about poverty, but the and set list were most definitely different from that of “The Walk” tour. The band preparing for the release of their EP “Stand Up Stand Up” sprinkled the new material amongst a semi rushed set (probably due to so many openers) during the evening.

It’s really hard to be disappointed at a Hanson show, and the boys lived up to their reputation. Kicking the night off with a great mix of songs, especially the infectious Been There Before. Who doesn’t enjoy singing along to the na na’s in it. Issac energetically rocking out during Great Divide, showing off and playing up the audience.

When the boys moved into their acoustic set each of the guys got a little solo stage time. Zac shined on his solo song “Use Me Up” sounding better than I’ve ever heard him before.  Issac performing Deeper and then Taylor’s solo “These Walls” one of the new tracks leading flawlessly back into their Electric set up.

During the later half of their set the boys performed a rare tune titled “Dream Girl,” which had been voted on for the set list by fans on Hanson.net. A very cool way to customize the set to each city, kudos to that. The end of the show was a bit more mellow than the start with tunes like a fantastic cover of “Oh Darlin” originally by the beatles, giving Zac another chance to shine on Vocals, and of course Mmmbop.

The band finished out the night with “Watch Over Me” with sentiment to “live life to the fullest,” and frankly I don’t think I can find words to beat that sentiment so I’ll leave you with that.
