Mirand Lambert at The State Fair

Published on October 18th, 2009

Saturday night after the big Texas vs OU game at the Cotton Bowl, fair goers and game attendees were in for a big treat at the Chevy main stage, Lindale’s own country music firecracker Miranda Lambert.
She hit the stage explosively, launching right into her hit song Kerosene setting the mood for what was sure to be one heck of a set. Treating attendees to a fair mixture of tracks from all 3 of her albums, giving a taste of the newest record Revolution, but not over-saturating the set list with it. Miranda who should be considered a seasoned veteran of the state fair by now, having played it no less than 4 times, knows her audience.
The eclectic Lambert included a little something for everyone., going from soulful covers like “Midnight Hour” to a straight up country track like “Time to Get a Gun.”  The whole set was full of highlights, which makes it hard to pick out one or two stand out moments, but one I absolutely loved was when she mashed up her song “Sin for a Sin” with Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire.”
While there’s no doubt Miranda can rock out with the best of em’ (you should see the hair fly), she’s also able to hold the audience in the palm of her hand and bring tears to their eyes with her softer side. Most namely during songs like “More Like Her” and “The House that Built Me”, which had even me a tad misty eyed. Of course then she turns around cheers you up with a song like “Gunpowder and Lead..” if you could call that song cheerful, well it’s empowering….. for women at least.. guy’s you’re out of luck on that one..
Each time I’m able to catch a performance by Miranda, she just gets better and better. It’s difficult to belive that’s possible, but she pulls it off.  This nearly 2 hour set, which included an impromptu encore of cover songs including a stellar version of “Crazy” by Patsy Cline, will be a tough one to beat in my book.
